"Samantha and Deciderio’s first date almost never happened. Both just about canceled, as Samantha almost chose to see the new Star Wars movie, and Deciderio was with his cousins at Sonoma Raceway and they had to leave the event early to make it. They went on their first date on December 19, 2015. 23 years earlier, Samantha’s parents, Craig and Wendy Mitchell were married on this day, so this was a good sign from the beginning. Samantha’s grandma, Helen Mitchell, had always told her that when searching for the person you will end up marrying, you marry a family, not a man. During Samantha and Deciderio first date, they spent a majority of the time talking about each other’s families and their relationships with them. Samantha left knowing that they placed the same value on family. 

As their relationship grew, these common values has become the foundation of their relationship. Samantha and Deciderio just fit. From very early on in Deciderio and Samantha’s relationship it was never a question of whether or not they would get married; the only question was when. Samantha knew that she was going to become a Gutierrez after about 3 months of dating Deciderio. When they went to one of Dezi’s cousins' wedding, while dancing at the wedding Dezi would not stop making her laugh. While dancing and laughing she knew that he was going to making her laugh the rest of her life and he was the one. From that moment she never questioned that conviction and has been patiently waiting for that moment that she could call Deciderio her husband. 

When the time came that Dezi and Sammy started seriously thinking about getting engaged. Deciderio knew that he wanted both of their families to be included in that moment. On December 24, 2017, after enjoying a Christmas Eve dinner with both of their families, Deciderio proposed to Samantha in front of the Christmas Tree. He had hidden the ring in an ornament full of snow on the Christmas Tree. After Deciderio proposed, their families spent the rest of the night toasting and celebrating the new engagement.
